No mean system at Greenwich church
Long-term Creative Audio-Visual Solutions (CAVS) customer South Street Baptist Church, Greenwich recently commissioned CAVS to upgrade all elements of their AV system as part of a recent re-ordering project.
It was broken down into two main elements – upgrade of the visual system (projector and displays) and the audio system (speakers to cover the ground floor and horse-shoe balcony areas) along with a digital mixer and stage musicians’ connectivity and monitor solutions.
To upgrade the visual system at the church, a new projector was installed – projecting onto the front wall. An Epson PU-2113W 13,000 lumen laser projector was specified with short throw lens to maximise image quality in daylight conditions. For areas under the sides of the balcony, 55” Iiyama anti-glare displays were installed along with an 86” version on the face of the balcony as a stage comfort/confidence monitor for musicians and service leaders.
On the audio side, an Electro-Voice speaker system was designed featuring EVU-1082 3° speakers mounted under the edges of the balcony for ground floor coverage and suspended EVC-1122 12° speakers for upper balcony as well as improved ‘auditory-focus’ to the stage from all areas of the church. These speakers feature the latest titanium compression driver technology to project high frequencies further for ultimate clarity and intelligibility to all the congregation. For full range audio quality, dual EKX 15” subwoofers provide low frequency dynamics – benefitting all music and video amplification.
The latest Dynacord (EV sister company) amplifier with digital speaker processing perfectly match the speakers and also the building’s acoustics without requiring a separate digital processor. The IX60:3 amplifier – 6,000 watts shared over 8 outputs – intelligently monitors every speaker to provide optimum power and protection at any time. This includes Dante audio networking – all within a 1U chassis!
At the control end of the audio system, an Allen & Heath SQ6 mixer provides 24 physical inputs with two Dante stageboxes (DT168) adding a further 32 inputs and 16 outputs for musicians’ stage connectivity.
Part of the audio system upgrade was to implement wired in-ear monitoring, with 16 outputs required for the 8 stereo monitoring systems – Shure P9HW beltpacks, with Sennheiser IE100 Pro headphones, and Shure charging stations to ensure the systems are ready to use each and every time.
Further upgrades are in the pipeline for stage lighting and additional streaming cameras.
This project, from a long-term customer, clearly demonstrates the trust the church has in Creative Audio-Visual Solutions to continue to improve communication solutions as requirements and technology change. Through careful planning and clear dialogue between CAVS and the church, the system has proved to be a huge success.
