Greenough & Sons were proud double winners at the 2010 NFRC Awards last month in London. The recent heritage project Chester Town Hall, for which the company acted as Main Contractor and specialist roofers, beat excellent competition to the crown of the UK’s best slating and tiling project of 2009. The project included the complete renovation of Chester Town Hall, the city’s historic and iconic centrepiece. The complex and challenging total refurbishment was completed on time and on cost. Curved slating, mitred work to hips, multiple dormers and spires, extreme pitches and the installation of new wrought iron ridges (200kg a piece) were all taken in stride and completed with stunning results. The Westmoreland Green and Penrhyn Heather Blue slates provided a natural quality British finish to the Grade 2 listed building. Due to the busy city centre location, Health & Safety was a major challenge, and made the company especially proud to receive their 2nd award of the day as ‘Best in Category’ for Safety 2009 to compliment the Gold Award already held with the NFRC.
