The Lead Contractors Association (LCA)
Supported at The Roofing Awards by ASSOCIATED LEAD MILLS (ALM) (Sponsors of the Murdoch Award)

Since 1996, the members of the Lead Contractors Association have vied for what quickly became regarded as the ultimate accolade in leadwork excellence – the Murdoch Award. Open to all members of the LCA using rolled sheet to BSEN12588 or traditional sand cast sheet, entries for the Murdoch Award competition demonstrate the very best design and workmanship examples of lead in roofing and cladding.

All entries are scrutinised by a judging panel, firstly looking in detail at photographs and site reports to establish a shortlist that require a further roof top examination by a member of the panel. Eventually three finalists are selected, from which an overall winner is chosen through a final assessment involving Dick Murdoch himself. The winner is first announced at the LCA Annual Conference.

Since 2004, the Murdoch Award has been sponsored by Associated Lead Mills, as a further demonstration of their support for the LCA’s promotion of quality standards. In 2006, ALM introduced the Murdoch Sponsors Award, to enable the judging panel to also recognise the smaller project (below 5 tonnes) which, whilst not perhaps containing the same wide variety and complexity of detailing as some of the larger entries, nevertheless had been carried out to an extraordinary standard. The LCA, again supported by Associated Lead Mills, are proud to be one of the sponsors for the Annual Congress Awards, where the Murdoch Award and Murdoch Sponsors Award will again be presented.
