A celebration of HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee by The Friends of Dorchester Abbey
21st April to 10th June 2012

‘John Piper and the Church’, an important loan exhibition of paintings, stained glass and tapestry designs, drawings and ecclesiastical vestments, is to be held at Dorchester Abbey, Dorchester-on-Thames, Oxfordshire OX10 7HH from 21st April to 10th June 2012.

More than 50 works spanning Piper’s career will be shown along with key works from public collections including the Britten-Pears Foundation; Manchester City Art Gallery; Pallant House Gallery, Chichester; The Collection, Lincolnshire (Usher Gallery) and the V&A. The exhibition will also include special works from private collections, most of which have been rarely seen.

The Past is Present for Heritage Skills Training Centre Print E-mail

A centre to train craftsmen in the skills needed to protect England’s historic buildings has officially opened in North Yorkshire.

The Heritage Training Centre in Bedale is the first of its kind in the UK, dedicated to ensuring skills like stone masonry and building with lime are not lost.

It’s been created by Heritage Craft Alliance Ltd in the grounds of the Thorp Perrow Arboretum, with the support of organisations like The Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment, the National Trust, and British Waterways.

Cardiff University is throwing open the doors of one of its most iconic buildings to give members of the public a rare opportunity to explore its history and find out more about the ground-breaking work that goes on there.

Formally opened in October 1909, the University’s impressive Main Building is Grade II listed and a thriving focal point for the campus and the city. As part of the Civic Trust Open Doors initiative, a special open day will be held on Saturday 17th September giving Cardiff residents and visitors to the city the chance to look behind the building’s familiar exterior.

GALLIFORD TRY COMPLETES CARBON NEGATIVE “CODE SIX” VICARAGE Print E-mail

A newly built vicarage in Wembley completed by Galliford Try for the London Diocesan Fund in partnership with LHA-ASRA Group, has become one of the first vicarages in the UK to achieve Level 6 of The Code for Sustainable Homes.

The carbon negative St Johns Vicarage forms part of a £4 million mixed use development built by Galliford Try which also includes 12 apartments, 8 terraced houses and a community centre built in the vicinity of St John's Church, originally designed in the 19th century by Sir George Gilbert Scott.

All Soul’s is cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust and is currently undergoing a scheme to convert into a community centre.
It has gone through a period of moth balling and as you can imagine the most important area for protecting the building during mothballing is the roof and water egress systems.
